Modeling Software: BIOSCREEN

Here, I’m going to introduce a new series which will include overviews of various groundwater modeling software. The first software that I will discuss is BIOSCREEN, a two-dimensional analytical model developed by the Environmental Protection Agency. The program applies Domenico analytical solute transport through a Microsoft Excel platform. The user enters plume and aquifer characteristics and the plume behavior is projected with or without decay. I have a fair amount of experience with this software, and I can definitely recommend it. The simple analytical model is quick to setup and easy to explain in reports. The program has one input screen and two reporting screens, which means that there are limited graphics to manage. More information on this model is available at the EPA BIOSCREEN website.
