GroundwaterGo is a project of the Open Space Institute, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Donations to GroundwaterGo are tax exempt. Our mission is to support research and education about groundwater through internet tools.
Groundwater provides half of all drinking water in this country and 40% of all agricultural irrigation, but most Americans don’t understand the sources of groundwater, how it moves beneath the ground, or what happens when groundwater become polluted. Our mission is to develop internet-based mapping tools that can help educate people about groundwater flow and containment fate and transport. These tools will be free, user-friendly, and interactive so that anyone can use them to learn more about groundwater in their community. The GroundwaterGo Mapper creates experimental, uncalibrated MODFLOW models based on publicly available GIS data. It’s purpose is to explore the possibilities of mining GIS data for groundwater modeling. Financial or policy decisions should not be made based on a GroundwaterGo model until it has been calibrated to site specific data by a qualified environmental professional.
